Accomplishments

So, it is maybe a little silly to put this on my list of things I’ve done this year, but I feel like in the past week I’ve actually gotten something done. I was recently hired to do the stats on an ongoing Semantic Typology project at my University, which is kind of a big deal for me. First, because I was actually hired to use one of these academic-y skills I’ve worked so hard to acquire. Secondly, because it is not only an interesting project, but it is also really good experience. It is one thing to follow all the steps and come to the right answer in a stats class (where there is an answer key and a professor right there to tell you where you are wrong and why.) It is a completely different thing to sit in a lab after having spend hours going through all of the details and setting up the equations and coming to an answer and defend what you did and explain why. I feel a little bit like I’ve taken a huge step forward as an academic and as a human being. That feels really good.

So, its going on the list of things I’ve done in 2010. It might be a small thing. It might be a silly thing. But, it is still a thing that I am proud of. And, that feels really good, too.
